Who We Are
University of Strathclyde Motorsport (USM) is a well-established student motorsport team competing in the global Formula Student initiative. Competing for over 20 years, USM now consists of around 60 members who design and build a single-seater electric racecar.
The team aims to develop engineering skills in a real-world environment that is fuelled by high-octane competition.
As an entirely student-led team from a wide variety of university departments, we pride ourselves on innovation and improving our performance year on year.
what is formula student
"Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational engineering competition, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2018.
Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such as Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering."
-Institution of Mechanical Engineers
Teams cars are not only judged on their racing performance during dynamic events, but also on component design, manufacturing quality, component documentation, environmental impact and the effectiveness of marketing.
USM has consistently been competing at FS events for the last 20 years, attending events such as FS UK, FS Germany and FS Netherlands.
